What is TIA?
The Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), established through House Bill 3 (HB3), recognizes and rewards outstanding educators while strengthening the teacher workforce across Texas. The program supports districts in attracting, developing, and retaining exceptional teachers, with additional incentives for those serving students in high-needs and rural schools.
Districts that choose to participate have the opportunity to design a locally developed teacher designation system that recognizes exceptional teaching through four levels of distinction: Acknowledged, Recognized, Exemplary, and Master. Each year, TEA publishes projected funding allotment amounts by campus and designation.
To maximize the impact on educators, at least 90% of TIA funding received by districts must be used to increase teacher compensation on the campus where the designated teacher serves.
Ultimately, the goals of TIA are to put children at the forefront by supporting districts with recruiting, retaining, and rewarding highly effective teachers. The Texas Education Agency (TEA), in partnership with Texas Tech University, works collaboratively with districts to review and approve local designation systems, ensuring they meet state standards while reflecting each district's unique goals and priorities.
