Bring Your Own Technology (B.Y.O.T.)
Franklin ISD has a student BYOT program. This program is offered at Roland Reynolds Elementary, Franklin Middle School, and Franklin High School. Students in the program are able to bring personal digital devices to school that support learning. Use of devices is aligned with the instruction taking place in the classroom each day. Students that don’t bring a device can check out devices for use in the classroom from the library or from classroom carts. Teachers are able to use online resources and collaboration tools in the same ways they are used in a college setting or workplace to accomplish tasks. Internet access is filtered just as before with any of these devices that connect to the Franklin ISD network.  All students must stay compliant with the technology AUP and BYOT forms in order to take advantage of these programs.

ABOUT FRANKLIN ISD'S TECHNOLOGY DEPARTMENT
Franklin ISD’s technology department serves the technological needs of over 1,300 students and staff members. Franklin ISD Technology department is excited about all the new products that are in place for the district. Students have a daily balance of technology in their classes with wireless mobile laptop carts, online applications and programs, distance learning, state of the art computer labs, video and audio systems, and enhanced computer classes. Teachers enjoy the functionality of the network solution that includes file storage, printing, online software resources, IP based phone system, video and audio broadcasting, and more. The district’s computer network is made up of over 1000 machines with a current student-computer ratio of 1:1. There are several computer labs located throughout the district, which provide wireless internet access within the schools. Every classroom and facility within the district has at least one computer with internet access as well as access to many software resources located in-house. With a gigabit fiber network linking all locations, Franklin ISD’s information system is built on a solid foundation of both reliability and speed to help ensure the delivery of technology throughout the district. This fast connection gives the district the ability to view streaming video with educational content, a cloud-based e-mail client for staff and students, interactive technology for all students ranging from special education to gifted and talented classes, distance learning lab for virtual field trips and college classes, and offers on-line curriculum for students. We have increased our internet bandwidth using a EIA 50MB connection to help support all of the online resources we offer the students and teachers. The focus of Franklin ISD’s technology department is to fully integrate technology into student instruction. We are doing that by placing more and more technology at the fingertips of the students and staff. We have interactive projectors in place at all school campuses, which allow the teachers and students to view documents electronically as well as interact and manipulate the whiteboard. Wireless mobile carts and labs have been put in place at each campus to ensure that all students have computer access in any subject. Ceiling mounted projectors and document cameras have been installed in every classroom to enhance visual learning. The backbone of the FISD network has allowed the district to move forward in technology. This networked system not only controls phone calls, but it also enhances school safety by allowing administrators to communicate with teachers and staff anywhere on school grounds by using its intercom system. IP Telephony offers a multitude of features that are both essential and cost effective for Franklin ISD. Franklin ISD has embraced the idea that technology will be an essential part of everyone’s future.
